Today's MPR News Presents are physician and anthropologist Dr. Paul Farmer's keynote remarks from a University of Minnesota symposium on social medicine and health equity.

Farmer has spent his career working to improve health care around the globe, because he believes "health is a right, not a commodity." He says the biggest barrier to health care equity is a failure of imagination.

He spoke April 30 at the University of Minnesota symposium, "Re-imagining Social Medicine: Transformative Education and Social Action for Health Equity. Farmer is co-founder of Partners in Health, and is chair of the department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard.
