College affordability for first generation students

College students are working harder than ever, and not just on school work. College tuition and living expenses are daunting for most undergraduates, leaving them no choice but to work up to 30 hours a week outside of school just to pay for it, leaving very little time for academics. This work offsets just enough to keep students afloat, but not debt-free. Still, students are often saddled with mountainous student loan debt.

All of this is even more challenging for first-generation college students--those who are the first in their families to attend college. MPR News host Kerri Miller talks with Seth Snyder, Director of College Success at College Possible Minnesota, and Rachel Fishman, senior education policy analyst at New America, about strategies for first generation college students navigating the finances of higher ed.
