Minnesota jobless rate steady at 3.8 percent in June

Minnesota's jobless rate held steady at a seasonally adjusted 3.8 percent in June as employers added 7,300 jobs, but the state's year-over-year job growth continues to lag the nation, state economic officials said Thursday.

The nation continues to outpace Minnesota in job growth. Over the past year, the state has added 34,246 jobs, a gain of 1.2 percent, compared to 1.8 percent during that period for the country, the department said.

Still, "signs point to continued growth in the labor market," DEED Commissioner Shawntera Hardy said in the statement.

Over the past year, education and health services continue to be strong, adding 23,105 jobs.

Industries losing jobs in the past year include logging and mining (down 1,475), information (down 1,225), other services (down 1,174) and manufacturing (down 269).
