Thousands of residents in Duluth are still without power after a storm toppled trees and power lines four days ago.

The sound of electric generators filled the air in the Duluth neighborhoods hardest hit by the storm.

Amy and Al Holappa live in the Woodland neighborhood where trees blown over by high winds smashed their car and severed the power line running to their home.

To make do they've cooked on a camp stove and bought a generator to power their fridge.

"I think the people across the street will probably be the last one's up because their power lines are in the backyards, a lot of big trees fell on those," Al Holappa said. "So when we're done with our generator, we'll give it to the neighbors until they get their power up,"

WDIO-TV reports that areas of Woodland, Hunter's Park, Morley Heights and Lakeside may be without power until Thursday. Other Duluth neighborhoods could see their lights come back on sooner.

At one point, more than 46,000 customers were without power, but most have seen that restored. As of Monday morning, Minnesota Power says about 3,500 of its customers are still affected.
