Demonstrators had been camping outside the governor's residence in St. Paul for nearly three weeks after the shooting of Philando Castile, who was killed by a police officer July 6.

Then, on Tuesday, St. Paul police started clearing out the encampment, and protesters took to the street during a few tense hours. By the next day, nearly 70 people had been arrested.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is still investigating Castile's death. Once its investigation is complete, the office of Ramsey County Attorney John Choi will get the case. Choi emphasized that no decision had been made yet on any charges in the shooting, or whether the case will be taken to a grand jury.

Correction (July 28, 2016): An earlier version of this story misidentified Jacob Ladda's role in the protests.
