A 28-year-old woman from the southwest Minnesota community of Luverne is in stable condition after being shot in the back of the head over the weekend in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Police have not identified the victim but say she was shot early Saturday morning while in a minivan, which was left riddled with bullet holes.

Multiple 9 mm shell casings were found at the scene, but no weapon has been found. A 48-year-old male passenger in the vehicle wasn't hurt.

Sioux Falls public information officer Sam Clemens said the injured woman has provided few details about what happened.

"We were kind of hoping that she would be able to fill in some of the blanks and maybe let us know what was going on. But she really has been tight-lipped and didn't really want to talk to the officers," Clemens said.

There was a party taking place in the area early Saturday morning when the shooting occurred, Clemens said, though it's unclear if the woman was at the party.

She was taken into surgery Saturday, and her condition has improved since then.
