Police said that after telling the Alexandria man he was under arrest, Klimek allegedly pulled out a knife and ran at three agents. Two of the agents, identified as Beth Eilers and Dustin Van der Hagen, fired their handguns at him.

Klimek was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Midwest Medical Examiners office in Anoka will determine the exact cause of death.

The BCA says Eilers has been a BCA Special Agent for nine years. Van der Hagen has been a BCA Special Agent in training for one month. He was previously with the Willmar Police Department for 11 years.

According to court records, Klimek was convicted in Olmsted County of engaging in prostitution with an individual under the age of 13 in 2014. He received a stayed seven-year prison sentence and 90 days in jail.

According to the Rochester Post-Bulletin, Klimek had arranged to meet a 12-year-old Rochester girl for sex in 2013.

The St. Paul Police Department is investigating at the BCA's request. The department's findings will be handed over to the Douglas County Attorney's Office.

A BCA spokesperson said as far as the agency can determine, this is the first time its agents have been involved in a fatal shooting.
