Today's Morning Edition music is from "Endless Love" by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross.

In 1981, the song hit No. 1 in the U.S. It turned out to be Ross' last of 18 No. 1 songs (so far) in her illustrious career including hits with the group The Supremes.

Richie wrote the song and for him it marked a new beginning. It was his first No. 1 hit that didn't involve The Commodores, a group he'd fronted for several years. He went on to super stardom as a solo artist.

"Endless Love" spent nine weeks at the top of the charts. Billboard has called it the greatest duet of all time.
