Celebrating 'Summer in the City'
"Summer in the City" by The Lovin' Spoonful hit No. 1 on the charts 50 years ago today.
It was one of a string of hits the band had in the mid-60s, including the songs "Do You Believe in Magic" and "... Daydream." But this was the band's only tune to go all the way to No. 1.
Rolling Stone even included the song on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The magazine put it at number 401.
