MN election official: Paper trail protects against potential hacking

The FBI says states should be aware of Russian hackers who may take aim at voter election systems.

Both Arizona and Illinois have reported their systems were compromised in the past two months. Neither assault turned out to be very damaging.

In Illinois, hackers were able to retrieve a small number of voter records. In Arizona, they only stole the username and password of a single election official.

Still, the secretary of state's office in Arizona described the threat as an "eight out of 10," and some are concerned these first intrusions into state voter databases may be a sign of more to come.
