Man dies after officer-involved shooting in Burnsville

A man died following an officer-involved shooting Monday night in Burnsville.
According to police who responded to the call at 8:25 p.m. Monday, a reportedly suicidal man with a gun left an apartment complex at the 1600 block of Cliff Road East.

About an hour later, police say heat sensors from a State Patrol helicopter located a person in a tree line near the apartment complex.
When officers approached the man, they say he had a gun.
According to the Burnsville Police Department's statement, "a Burnsville officer fired shots and the individual is deceased. All officers on scene were unharmed."
The statement does not say if other shots were fired at the scene. Officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident.
It's the second officer-involved shooting in Burnsville this year. On March 17, officers fatally shot 38-year-old Chaska resident Map Kong after he allegedly disobeyed police orders to drop a knife during a confrontation. At the time, Burnsville police Chief Eric Gieseke said it was the first fatal officer-involved shooting since 1981.
