Crews working on the St. Croix Crossing have placed the final precast concrete segments on the bridge connecting Minnesota and Wisconsin.

There are about 1,000 precast segments over the river and bluffs, although some parts of the bridge are yet to be cast in place.

Project director Michael Beer said it's a major milestone, but there's still a lot of work to do.

"There's skirting being placed along the bridge. That'll continue into this fall until temperatures get too cold and then resume next year," Beer said. "There'll be work to complete all the painting of the bridge. We have to do electrical and drainage work and finish the riding surface of the bridge yet. So it'll look like a completed bridge this fall and into the winter, but there's still a lot of work to be completed next year."

Beer said the project is still on schedule to finish in the fall of 2017. The bridge will replace the Stillwater Lift Bridge.
