1 person dead in north metro helicopter crash

One person died in a helicopter crash early Thursday night in Lino Lakes, a suburb north of St. Paul.

The crash happened at the southeast corner of the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Main Street, according to Gordy Hughes, lead dispatcher for the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.

The intersection appears to be surrounded by fields with no structures immediately nearby.

The initial call came in at 5:28 p.m., Hughes said, and multiple people saw the crash. No further details were available as of early in the evening.

Anoka County, Lino Lakes, Centennial Lakes, Blaine and State Patrol authorities are responding to the incident.
