This week, the Art Hounds recommend a band at the Turf Club, a show of state flowers in Hutchinson and Frank Theatre's "Good Person of Setzuan."

Actress Katie Willer doesn't have much of a voice at the moment because she's been singing along to Tall Heights at the top of her lungs. The progressive folk duo create lush sonic arrangements on their latest album, "Neptune." Willer says she was astonished at how their live performances shine even more brightly than their recordings. Tall Heights performs Sunday at the Turf Club in St. Paul.

Arts administrator Catherine Jordan is a big fan of Frank Theatre and its quirky, meaty productions in odd locations. Frank's next production is Bertolt Brecht's "Good Person of Setzuan," in which a young woman attempts to lead a moral life despite the corrupt and greedy world that surrounds her. This production is being staged in the loading dock of an empty Rainbow Foods in Minneapolis. Performances run Oct. 28 through Nov. 20.

Painter Brian Frink was at first dubious when he heard about "Paper State Flowers," a new show by graphic designers David Rogers and Ellen Schofield. The exhibit presents 50 works that combine state abbreviations (MN, IA, etc.) with their respective state flowers. But Frink says the show is far from cheesy — instead, it's gorgeous and inviting, reminiscent of artful valentines. The show is up through Nov. 4 at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts.
