"The Nix" by Nathan Hill

Nathan Hill's perspective-jumping mother-son story, which deals with estrangement, radical politics and life as an underacheiver, is in development with Warner Bros. Television, according to Deadline. J.J. Abrams, the creative force behind "Lost" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," is attached to direct several of the episodes, and Meryl Streep is set to star.

"Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events"

Netflix is releasing an adaptation of the beloved 13-book tragicomic children's series next year.

All episodes will be available at once for maximum binging, come Jan. 13, 2017. The series' dastardly Count Olaf will be played with obvious glee by Neil Patrick Harris.

"Alias Grace" by Margaret Atwood

Margaret Atwood's historical novel about a real 1843 crime may also be coming to Netflix. Atwood's novel tells the story of Grace Marks, who was convicted of killing her employer and a fellow housekeeper in Canada.

According to the Guardian, Sarah Polley is attached to write and produce a six-hour miniseries based on the tale.

"NW" by Zadie Smith

This adaptation of Zadie Smith's novel has already hit the BBC. Smith's story of four characters trying to make adult lives for themselves in northern London was transformed into a 90-minute drama. It's the second of her novels to be adapted: "White Teeth" was released in 2002.

J.K. Rowling's Cormoran Strike novels

J.K. Rowling's detective series, published under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, is being adapted into a series for BBC One. According to Variety, the series is shooting this fall.

"Anne of Green Gables" by L.M. Montgomery

Hold on to your bonnets, Anne Shirley is back.

The latest adaptation of L.M. Montgomery's series will simply be called, "Anne," according to Deadline. It will hit Netflix some time in 2017.

"Big Little Lies" by Liane Moriarty

Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and a fleet of other recognizable names will star in this adaptation of Liane Moriarty's domestic drama. The book centers on three mothers and all the entanglements that come with ex-husbands, new wives, long-held secrets and old friends.

"Dietland" by Sarai Walker

Sarai Walker's novel follows a woman who fantasizes about losing weight, convinced that her true self will finally emerge after weight-loss surgery. But her daydreams about her shrinking waistline are disrupted when she gets entangled in a revenge plot against those who enforce restrictive beauty standards.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show will be developed by Marti Noxon, who produced "UnReal."
