Dorado Schmitt to play Dakota Jazz Club
Today's Morning Edition music is from Dorado Schmitt and the Django Festival All Stars with "Swing Gitan," recorded live at Birdland in New York.
They will be performing Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis.
Schmitt, who plays guitar and violin, was born in Lorraine, France. According to his bio, he was weaned on traditional Roma music and Gypsy jazz, but rebelled as a teenager by taking up the electric guitar.
These days he's known as one of the world's best disciples of the musical tradition popularized by jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt.
