Students at North High School in Minneapolis are celebrating after their football team won a state title this weekend.

It's the first state football title for a Minneapolis public high school since Washburn in 1977.

Coach Charles Adams says as a North alumnus, the victory makes him especially proud.

"This is the school I was playing at as well, so I put my heart into it because I care about this. This is where I came from as well."

North lost to Minneota in last year's championship game.

In 2010, district officials came close to shutting down North High School because of falling enrollment and poor academic performance.
