Today's Morning Edition music is from "Funky Drummer," which was from a 1969 recording by James Brown.

Brown's drummer on the track was Clyde Stubblefield, who died over the weekend at the age of 73.

He was one of two drummers in Brown's band from 1965 to 1971. The distinctive funk rhythms he created were often sampled by hip hop artists. Most notably, Public Enemy sampled Stubblefield's drumming from this song on their anthem "Fight the Power."
