Dayton to meet Delano family hurt by racist graffiti

Gov. Mark Dayton on Friday called racist graffiti and threats left on the home of a black family in Delano "un-Minnesotan," and said he'd invited the family to lunch with him Saturday at the governor's residence.

"It's just horrible, so un-Minnesotan, so illegal, so immoral. I denounce it in the strongest possible terms," Dayton said of the graffiti and threatening messages. Dayton's staff confirmed the family will meet the governor Saturday for lunch.

The homebuilder Naresh Uppal has started a GoFundMe campaign to help the family move. According to his Go Fund Me page, the family had moved in only a few months ago and the house was their dream home.

But on Sunday, they came home to find vandals had broken in and "spray painted on the walls both inside and outside the home along with stolen/damaged personal items and trash thrown around the house. TV's and family photos were spray painted as well."

Uppal has said his company will buy the house back from the family. Dayton praised the homebuilder and others who have spoken out.
