For St. Patrick's Day, the streets were filled with leprechaun hats, green face paint and thousands of shamrocks — all the tropes of the "Irish" holiday.

James Silas Rogers' new book, "Irish-American Autobiography: The Divided Hearts of Athletes, Priests, Pilgrims, and More," gets at the question of Irish identity, beyond the stereotypes.

"Is there still a distinct Irish identity in America?" Rogers asks. He joined MPR News host Tom Crann to discuss his book, and what it means to be Irish in modern America.
