Folk, blues and country converge on new Son Volt album

Today's Morning Edition music is from "Cherokee Street" by Son Volt off their new album "Notes of Blue."

They'll be performing Wednesday night at First Avenue in Minneapolis.

Son Volt's leader Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy helped create the alt-country sound when they played together in Uncle Tupelo.

"With this recording, I was aiming for where folk and blues and country converge. I think it was the realization that blues was an important part of early country music," Farrar told The Capital Times.
