Bicyclist killed in Minneapolis crash was an avid runner, volunteer

Authorities have identified the bicylist who was killed Thursday in a collision with a van in north Minneapolis.

Jillian Friedrich, 34, from Columbia Heights died later that day at North Memorial hospital from injuries she sustained in the collision.

Police say Friedrich was riding north on 2nd Street North when she and a vehicle driven by a man heading west on Lowry Avenue collided.

The driver stopped and police say he is cooperating with the investigation.

The organization Mile in My Shoes said in a Facebook post that Friedrich was one of its running mentors and was on her way to a team run when she died. The group uses running to support Minneapolis residents with diverse backgrounds and in many homeless shelters.

In its online post the group said it was terribly saddened but grateful to Friedrich.

A celebration of her life is planned for Tuesday night at Jax Cafe. Members of Mile in my Shoes say they plan to wear their team shirts in honor of her work.
