McDaniel spent 11 years with the Vikings before a brief stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He retired in 2001, which gave him more time to focus on education.

He's still an elementary teacher in the Robbinsdale school district.

In a 2009 interview with Gary Eichten, McDaniel talked about football and elementary school. He took listener calls as well.
