The Equal Justice Initiative is collecting soil from lynchings sites across the country for a memorial in Montgomery, Alabama. Johnson helped collect soil from a Duluth site where three African-American men were lynched in 1920.

MPR host Tom Weber and co-host Doualy Xaykaothao spoke to Johnson and Sia Sanneh, an attorney at Equal Justice Initiative.
