This week on Art Hounds: James Sewell Ballet performs with the Ahn Trio, poets return from the dead to compete with one another, and "A Night in Andalusia" offers Flamenco dance and music.

Retired performing arts critic Roy Close recommends James Sewell Ballet's upcoming performance with the Ahn Trio. Close says Sewell's background in gymnastics infuses his choreography with springy athleticism, and it's always a treat to see dancers perform to live music. Nov. 3-5 at The O'Shaughnessy in St. Paul.

Kathryn Sonja Inoferio will be spending "A Night in Andalusia" at the Phoenix Theater in Minneapolis. This evening of Flamenco music and dance brings together talent from around the country and the world. The performance begins at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Musician John Sievers is looking forward to the fourth annual "Day of the Dead Poets Slam" at the Rochester Art Center. The event combines a slam poetry contest with a celebration of Dia de los Muertos; slam performers dress up like their favorite departed poets and compete for a jury's votes. The contest, which gets underway at 7 p.m. Saturday, will be preceded by Aztec dancing, and there are several other family-friendly related activities to check out on Friday and Saturday.
