Art Hounds: Julie Buffalohead's vivid prints offer smart, dark commentary

The Garden, by Julie Buffalohead
The Garden, by Julie Buffalohead, responds to the "scaffold" controversy at the Walker Art Center earlier this year. It's part of Julie Buffalohead's current exhibition at Bockley Gallery in Minneapolis, which runs through December 23.

Mia curator Robert Cozzolino recommends paying a visit to Bockley Gallery in Minneapolis to check out Julie Buffalohead's latest show. Buffalohead's prints at first appear whimsical, starring rabbits and coyotes, but further inspection often reveals a darker subtext. Her show is up through Dec. 23.

School and community theater director Julie Martin is heading to the Sheldon Theatre this Saturday night for Kevin Kling's holiday classic "Tales from the Charred Underbelly of the Yule Log." This is the first time Kling has taken his show out of the Twin Cities; joining him are musicians Dan Chouinard and Simone Perrin.

Poet Kris Bigalk is a big fan of Billy McLaughlin, who for the past several years has joined up with Simple Gifts over the holidays for a series of concerts that celebrate the season with beautiful arrangements of classic songs. Upcoming performances include Dec. 15 at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Dec. 16 at Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina and Dec. 17 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Roseville.
