The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has identified the man shot by police at Minneapolis City Hall on Monday as Marcus Fischer.

The BCA said Fischer, 18, is being treated for his injuries at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said Monday law enforcement personnel were interviewing Fisher before the shooting, but left him alone in an interview room.

Police union president Lt. Bob Kroll, who watched surveillance video of the incident said Fischer was trying to hurt himself with a knife, and when officers tried to stop him, he was shot.

The officers who fired at the man saved him from doing further harm to himself, Kroll said Tuesday.

The BCA is investigating the incident and conducting interviews.

The agency said the attorneys for other MPD personnel will make their clients available later this week.

A Hennepin County Medical Center spokesperson did not have information on Fischer's condition.
