A dog rescued from a pond by Bloomington firefighters Wednesday triggered some let's-be-careful-out-there warnings from authorities around the Twin Cities about the dangers of trusting late March ice.

Bloomington fire tweeted a picture of a firefighter in full cold-weather gear getting the dog out of a pond around the 8200 block of Penn Avenue South.

The tweet won applause from local first responders and kindled some gentle but firm reminders about testing the ice late in the season, including one from the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen.

By the way, the dog is doing just fine, Bloomington says.
