Guns n' Roses topped the charts thirty years ago with "Sweet Child O' Mine."

Guitarist Slash has said "Sweet Child O' Mine" got its start as a quick little melody he made up, with his bandmates adding chords and lyrics later on. It went on to become Guns n' Roses' only number one single.

Slash told Uncut magazine that it's strange hearing the song now as elevator Muzak, or played on instruments like the piano or harp.

"I get a mix of emotions when that happens," he said. "Part of it is 'hey wow, that's our tune!', part of is embarrassment at even noticing it, part of it is bewilderment of somebody else playing your music ... who is just playing your music as part of a thousand pieces of material that they have to play."
