Mpls. woman faces felony charge after child shoots himself in the hand

A Minneapolis woman is facing a felony child endangerment charge after a 4-year-old accidentally shot himself in the hand on Thursday.

Prosecutors say the boy found a firearm belonging to his father's girlfriend.

According to the criminal complaint, 34-year-old Tiara Marie Wilburn allegedly told officers that she left the gun in her purse, which she'd put on the floor of a bedroom closet.

Wilburn said the boy must have found the gun while she was preparing medicine for his father.

Authorities say the child suffered significant injuries to his left hand that required surgery.

Wilburn is scheduled to make her first court appearance Monday.
