How healthy are Minnesota's fisheries?

The 2019 walleye and northern pike fishing seasons in Minnesota begin Saturday.

A party led by Gov. Tim Walz will be casting lines in the Albert Lea area this year, a rare south-of-the-Twin-Cities site for the traditional governor's opener.

And for the first time since 2015, anglers will be able to keep some of the fish they catch on Lake Mille Lacs.

Brad Parsons, the fisheries chief for the Department of Natural Resources, talked about that decision and more with MPR News host Cathy Wurzer.
