Art Hughes
Art Hughes began his communications career at age 12 as an operator for one of five crank telephone systems remaining in the country at the time. In high school he read school news on a local radio station. The day after he graduated he drove 250 miles to take the test for a 3rd Class radio operators license, which the FCC required for people who wanted to talk on the radio. He has a degree in music education from the University of New Mexico and a journalism degree from Western Washington University. A radio journalist since 1990, Art reported for commercial and public stations in the Pacific Northwest before taking a general assignment reporter position for MPR in Rochester in 1996. He's covered Minneapolis issues for MPR since December 2000.
