Fire at St. Paul apartment complex displaces 60 from their homes

About 60 people were forced out of their homes on Sunday after a fire at an apartment complex on the city's East Side.

About 30 firefighters arrived on the scene just before 2 p.m. after a fire started in a third-floor apartment of the complex, St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard said.

No one was inside the apartment where the fire started, Zaccard said.

The fire was contained to one unit, but burned through the main electrical wire feed and cut power to the building.

The American Red Cross provided shelter for 21 adults and 16 children on Sunday night.

Authorities are investigating what caused the fire.
