Immigration officials finally clear way for Hopkins family to adopt

U.S. immigration officials have cleared the way to allow a Hopkins family to return to the United States a daughter they adopted in China.

Andrew and Michelle Ransavage adopted baby Mia last fall. But U.S. immigration officials held up the baby's visa because of a year-old drunk driving charge on Andrew's record.

Since then, the family has been struggling to straighten out the red tape.

Grandfather Ritch Mjelde says his daughter and son-in-law are ecstatic that they will be able to bring their new daughter home.

"She's a wonderful little girl. she has a cleft palate she also had a cleft lip that was repaired she is really bright and rather precocious it was just fun to watch the relationship develop while we were there," says Mjelde.

After Ransavage was charged with drunk driving he submitted to psychological and chemical dependency exams and other tests, which he passed.
