St. Paul man charged with attempted kidnapping

A St. Paul man has been charged with trying to kidnap a 14-year-old girl earlier this week.

Prosecutors allege that Ali Abdilahi was the driver of the car that rolled alongside the girl Tuesday morning as she was walking on the street. According to the criminal complaint, another man in the passenger's seat tried to force her into the car.

The girl resisted by holding onto the car mirror, causing her to be dragged along the pavement. The girl remembered part of the license plate number and eventually identified Abdilahi as the driver.

Phil Carruthers of the Ramsey County Attorney's office says officers found the girl with scraped knees and torn clothing. She told authorities that a passer-by didn't stop to help.

"She did say there was a car after this happened that drove by, and she screamed, and said, 'Can you help me?' and he said, 'no,' and drove off."

Police are looking for a second man who was allegedly in the car with Abdilahi.
