Pipe bomb closes Eden Valley City Hall

The Eden Valley City Hall had to be evacuated Tuesday, after someone brought in an explosive device.

Meeker County Sheriff Mike Hirman says the person said they found it while cleaning out a storage shed.

"It had all the markings, the shape. Looked like a pipe bomb. They brought it in to the police department. They were concerned about it, what they should do with it. At that time we told them to evacuate the city hall in case it was a true pipe bomb," said Hirman.

Hirman said the device turned out to be a pipe bomb. The Minneapolis Bomb Squad was able to remove the device and detonate in a remote location.

Hirman said authorities want to talk to the person who rented the storage shed. The man who brought the device to city hall is not under suspicion.

Eden Valley is about 25 miles southwest of St. Cloud.
