The Internal Revenue Service says some parents are not getting as much in their economic stimulus check as they planned on. It is unclear how many Minnesota filers were affected by the child tax-credit issue.

Carrie Resch is a spokesperson with the IRS office in St. Paul. She says a glitch affected about 350,000 taxpayers nationwide, including some who used commercial tax preparation software.

"And there's something either in the software or human error for people who filed a paper return that the box regarding the child tax credit didn't get checked and that's what our system uses to trigger a $300 payment for each qualifying child," Resch said.

The IRS expects most of the economic incentive checks to be issued by the end of June. Letters will be sent to people who missed out on the child credit refund and checks for those payments are expected to be mailed in July.
