Immigration officials raid home of Northfield couple

Immigration officials raided the home of a Northfield couple.

Ernst and Ida Luposchainsky immigrated to the U-S from a refugee camp in Austria in the mid-1950s. The couple are U.S. citizens and their son, Ernst the third, lives with them.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Tim Counts said that during the search officials found chemical substances they believed were hazardous.

Counts said a Hazardous Materials team was called in from the Minnesota National Guard.

"I can say however that the chemical substances that we came across were not related to the nature of the investigation of the search warrant," he said. "That's just something we came across while we were there."

The Haz Mat team gathered and analyzed the substance. It turned out not to be hazardous.

Counts said the search warrant remains sealed. No arrests were made.
