Gopher coach Tubby Smith's nephew killed

(AP) - Police in Worcester, Mass., are interviewing witnesses as the investigation continues into the death of Minnesota basketball coach Tubby Smith's nephew.

Police say William L. Smith, 19, a Becker College student who lived in Scotland, Md., was fatally stabbed during a fight at an off-campus apartment early Sunday.

The University of Minnesota confirmed the victim's relationship with the basketball coach.

Detective Capt. Edward McGinn said Smith was stabbed once in the chest after a fight involving students and nonstudents broke out during a house party and spilled into the street.

McGinn says a weapon was recovered at the scene. No arrests have been made, but police said Monday they were pursuing several leads. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
