Minn. Secretary of Senate to resign after 36 years

Patrick Flahaven also has the second-longest tenure of any state senate secretary in the nation.

A spokesman for the Minnesota Senate's Democratic majority says Flahaven will retire at the end of the year.

Flahaven was elected as secretary of the Senate in 1973, and has been serving since.

He is a recognized expert on parliamentary procedure and has led national groups including the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries.

Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller says Flahaven's knowledge is invaluable and will be missed.
