For the next few weeks Minnesota's Unemployment Insurance Program is offering its online service on Sundays.

Officials are making the self-service system available to make up for the three holidays over the next four weeks.

Lee Nelson, with the state Department of Employment and Economic Development, said the system is generally closed on weekends. But he said the expanded hours will help off-set the business hours lost during the holidays.

"We will be open six to six on the online system. The online system will be open December 28, January 4, January 11 and January 18," Nelson said.

Nelson said 101,000 Minnesotans requested regular state unemployment benefits last week. He said an additional 25,000 people requested a federal extension of benefits.
