Wintry weather in the Twin Cities snarled traffic during today's evening commute and also caused some flight delays at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Traffic on the snow-covered highways moved slowly all afternoon. MNDot reported a number of spin-outs and accidents, some of which blocked traffic. Officials were encouraging motorists to take their time.

At the airport, incoming flights were delayed up to two-and-a-half hours. Airport spokesman Patrick Hogan said initially flights were delayed because of limited visibility. He said delays were further compounded when crews temporarily closed one runway so they could plow snow.

By 6 p.m., general arrival delays were between 46 minutes and one hour. Departure delays were 15 minutes or less.
