Maplewood father-daughter win medallion hunt

A father and daughter from Maplewood are the winners of the 2009 St. Paul Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt.

Joe Horwath and his 21-year-old daughter, Jessica, found the medallion in Swede Hollow Park at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Horwaths brought the medallion and 11 days worth of clues to the newspaper. Jessica also had a registered Winter Carnival button, so the two will get $10,000 in prize money, along with $1,200 good toward groceries from Cub Foods.

The father-daughter team found the medallion on the 11th day of the 12-day annual hunt.

It was the Horwaths' first day out looking with tools. They had been searching about an hour when the prize floated to the surface of a creek that runs in the park.
