Out of the depths
After a long run of temperatures averaging well below normal across Minnesota we suddenly find a thaw and a surge of very mild air into the upper Midwest.
We are beginning the day with readings about 20 degrees above the thirty-year normal. Heavy rain was reported at Fargo-Moorhead before daybreak.
A low pressure system is predicted to organize in central South Dakota later today and then track towards Fergus Falls tonight. This puts a large portion of Minnesota into the zone of milder air. Most of the precipitation will fall as rain later today in central and southern Minnesota. The greatest threat for a dangerous coating of ice appears to align from Roseau to Hibbing.
