New budget forecast just released

The Minnesota budget deficit is expected to be $4.57 billion over the next two-year budget cycle, down from the previous estimate of $4.85 billion.

Federal stimulus money helped reduce the number. Without the federal help, the deficit would have been $6.4 billion.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Minnesota Public Radio Capitol reporter Tom Scheck about the new budget forecast, which is officially unveiled later this morning.
