Duluth's top administrator leaving, again

Duluth's top administrator, who was once fired from that job with a note tacked to his door, is leaving the city again. This time, however, Mark Winson's departure is voluntarily.

Last February, Winson returned to his old city job, but Tuesday he announced he's returning to Lake Superior College in Duluth. Winson said he worked well with Duluth Mayor Don Ness, but has lost interest in the job.

"Where the work used to energize me, I just didn't have the enthusiasm and I started to wonder 'what's wrong?'" Winson said. "I recognized that the job didn't fit me anymore."

Winson held Duluth's top city job under former Mayor Herb Bergson, until Bergson fired him with a note posted on Winson's office door. Winson will resume his work as Lake Superior College's Vice President of Finance and Administration.

Duluth Mayor Ness said he's chosen an Indiana man, Michael Ashcraft, as the city's next Chief Administrative Officer.
