U of M students in huge party could be evicted

(AP) - Students implicated in the violent Spring Jam block party last weekend could be evicted from their rental house near the University of Minnesota campus.

Dinkytown Rentals owner Tim Harmsen served the residents with eviction notices on Monday for what he calls several violations of their lease.

He says the students could be forced to move out by Thursday morning, pending a judge's decision in Hennepin County Housing Court.

Harmsen says both the upper and lower units of the duplex face eviction for unlawful assembly, destruction of property, providing kegs to minors and several noise complaints.

The Minnesota Daily reports the students facing eviction were advised by University Student Legal Service to not comment to the media.

Police say students damaged cars, started a fire in the street and threw rocks and bottles at officers.
