Winona police investigate chicken-part spill

(AP) - Winona police are investigating after a couple of city streets were covered with inedible "chicken skimmings," including heads and feathers.

Police says a tractor-trailer spilled the mess along several blocks of Main Street on Monday afternoon.

Witnesses saw a blue truck rumble away from the scene, but Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams says that wasn't enough for police to locate the truck.

Chicken skimmings were leaked onto Winona roads three times between May and October 2007.

One of those incidents resulted in cars splattered with skimmings for 10 blocks and three car accidents due to slippery roads.

On two occasions drivers for a company that was contracted to haul the skimmings to a rendering plant were ticketed for failing to secure their loads.
