FBI Minneapolis division to get new building

Construction will start this fall on a new, $53.7 million field office for FBI agents operating in the Twin Cities.

The office will be built on an 8.26-acre site along Freeway Boulevard and Highway 100 in Brooklyn Center. It is expected to be finished by spring 2011.

FBI Minneapolis Special Agent in Charge Ralph Boelter said the building will accommodate the division's growth since Sept. 11, 2001.

The project more than doubles the FBI's current space in downtown Minneapolis. It will include a five-story office building, an enclosed garage with 200 parking spaces, and a one-story annex for automotive repairs and other maintenance.

The FBI's Minneapolis division covers Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
