A fight outside the Moonlight Magic Bar also left three people with gunshot wounds.

Saint Paul Police Commander Colleen Luna told the group more arrests are possible in the case. Seven people have already been charged in the fatal beating. Luna said she was pleased by the large turnout.

"That means that this community cares and that we can change it," Luna said. "The fact that the bar owners came out, that they want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. The homeowners want to be part of the solution. That is exactly what we need to turn a neighborhood around."

Luna said police have stepped up patrols near the bar. She says city officials are also checking to see if any inspection codes were violated.

Lisa Wright lives down the block from the bar. She says she wants the owner to take more control over the activity that happens in and near the bar.

"I want him to be accountable to the neighborhood and community that he's in," Wright said. "So if that means you need to be out there picking up the trash, that's what you need to be doing. If you need to be monitoring your patrons and who you let come in to your bar, that's what you need to be doing."

The owners met briefly with neighbors after last night's meeting. They said they want to work with nearby residents to improve the neighborhood.
